Mindful Practices in 2024: Six Goals to Elevate Your Well-Being

The new year is only days away, and everyone around you is talking about the health or wellness goals they set for 2024.  Do you want to create new goals to improve your well-being, too, but you are not sure where to start? Does the idea of creating and sticking to new goals feel overwhelming, especially when dealing with year-end and holiday chaos? 

How about starting with setting a few goals to cultivate mindfulness? 


Mindfulness practices are a wonderful way to improve personal well-being. Some fantastic benefits are learning to understand your emotions, coping better with difficult thoughts, feeling calmer, boosting your attention and concentration, and improving your relationships.

But before we dive into which mindfulness practices to start in 2024, here are a couple of tips to help in the goal-setting phase.

  • Set specific goals - Be clear on your intentions and the outcome you WANT.

  • Break your goals down - Create small actionable steps to make progress inevitable. We outlined a few suggestions later in the post to help you get started.   

  • Track your progress -  Write down your goals and action steps. Check the steps off as they are completed.

  • Release the need for perfection -  Perhaps the most important tip of all is to speak kindly to yourself. Remember, no one is perfect,  so when mistakes happen, don't judge yourself; let it be and keep moving forward.

Here are six goals to cultivate mindfulness in 2024:

Daily Meditation Practice:

  • Goal: Commit to daily meditation practice, even if it's just for a few minutes.

  • Action Steps: Find a quiet space, use guided meditation apps, and gradually increase the duration over time.

Daily Movement or Exercise:

  • Goal: Commit to daily movement or exercise practice, even if it's only 10 - 15 minutes a day

  • Action Steps: Schedule time for short walks in nature or short yoga flows into your day. Gradually increase movement practices or incorporate other forms of exercise and movement into your schedule.

Mindful Breathing Exercises:

  • Goal: Incorporate mindful breathing into your daily routine.

  • Action Steps: Practice deep breathing exercises during stressful moments, focus on your breath, and gradually make it a habit.

Mindful Eating Habits:

  • Goal: Develop a mindful approach to eating.

  • Action Steps: Pay attention to the sensory experience of eating, savor each bite, and avoid distractions during meals.

Digital Detox Challenge:

  • Goal: Reduce screen time and cultivate presence.

  • Action Steps: Set specific time limits for phone and social media usage, designating tech-free zones in your home.

Gratitude Journaling:

  • Goal: Foster a positive mindset through gratitude.

  • Action Steps: Start a daily gratitude journal, writing down three things you're grateful for each day.
